Celcon Blocks are an ideal acoustic solution for houses and flats

The popular myth has it that the heavier the material, then the better its acoustic properties are. And like all popular myths there is an element of truth in it – but only when you are comparing like with like.

Aircrete products, such as Celcon Blocks from H+H UK, are much better at reducing the transmission of sound than an aggregate block of the same weight because of their unique internal structure. Celcon Blocks have a cellular structure made up of thousands of non-connected cells. These cells give Celcon Blocks their excellent acoustic insulation properties, as well as making them highly resistant to the passage of heat, air and water.

No need for Pre-completion testing
Recently approved Robust Details mean that it is now possible to build a number of Robust Detail constructions for separating and flanking walls that when used in conjunction with separating floors, can completely eliminate the need for any pre-completion testing in forms of house as well as flats and apartments.

The Acoustics guide below explains the Aircrete mass law and how our blocks match the performance of denser aggregate block masonry walls of the same thickness. The Performance standards set out within Approved Document E (England and Wales), the routes to compliance and
solutions which can be used for New build housing, flats and apartments, Rooms for residential purposes and schools.

Also included are details of the Performance Standards set out within Section 5 of the Scottish Technical Handbook including routes to compliance (specified (deemed to satisfy) constructions), performance testing and Robust Details (new build only) and their solutions.
