Sustainable manufacture

H+H UK have been manufacturing Celcon aircrete using PFA for nearly 60 years. There is a total commitment throughout the business to reduce the impact of our business on the environment and to produce products that are better for the environment than other conventional types.

  • H+H UK is a member of the UK Green Building Council.
  • H+H UK has been accredited under the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme (EEAS), the UK’s independent benchmark for energy efficiency administered by the Carbon trust. We are the first aircrete manufacturer and the first precast concrete industry company to achieve this accreditation – which covers all of our factories.
  • Sustainability does not rest with production and products. H+H UK work hard to address the skills issues within the construction industry:
  • We have 2 dedicated Demonstrators who travel the country training site based operatives in the correct use of our products, particularly our Thin Joint and Celcon Floor Systems where labour and material waste on site can be minimised.
By working with the CITB we have established nationally recognised training modules for thin joint blockwork with the bricklaying vocational courses. Training of college lecturers was a key part of this process.
We have established partnerships with 20 colleges where building skills (notably brick laying courses) are taught. Most colleges are Centres of Vocational Excellence in building skills.
Health and Safety of employees is of paramount importance:
  • We have established our own initiative, called Safety Plus, which attempts to eliminate accidents and health and safety hazards whereever possible. All staff have been through a comprehensive training programme associated with Safety Plus.
Additionally many staff have undertaken health and safety training administered by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and have achieved a Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the workplace.
