Job Title: Electrical Controls Technician
Location: Pollington
Reports to: Engineering Manager

 

Main purpose of the job:

Reporting to the Engineering manager, you will be working as part of the maintenance team to provide electrical, and controls support on a daily basis to ensure our production requirements are met.  You will be responsible for minimising downtime and maximising plant efficiency whilst maintaining the highest level of Health and Safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of controls, safety concepts and systems
  • Technical review of and approval of contractor’s electrical equipment and software
  • Software design and development of plant controls systems, including PLCs, Inverters, HMIs, and field devices (Siemens PLC & HMI, SEW Inverters)
  • Ensure compliance of electrical systems along with calibration of field equipment and metering
  • Contribute to the updating of plant documents, spare parts list and planned maintenance schedules
  • Suggest, run and manage electrical controls projects to on-time on-budget expectations
  • Ensure full compliance to recognised maintenance methods
  • Developing the maintenance teams through local training on controls techniques and fault-finding diagnostics
  • Manage process IT equipment and software to ensure they are fully operational and backed up to support the production process
  •  Provide second line technical support and expertise to the maintenance teams
  • Participate within our Reliability Centred Maintenance program
  • Play an active part in the site’s Continuous Improvement culture, working in collaboration with other departments to improve operating performance, reduce waste and control costs
  • To work closely with the production team to achieve shared goals
  • Managing contractors on site, including inductions/RAMS etc are followed, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standard
  • Ensuring all aspects of health and safety are adhered to and jobs are carried out by trained and competent personnel

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • HNC/HND qualified in an appropriate engineering discipline
  • 5 years’ experience in a controls position
  • Excellent understanding and use of lean manufacturing tools
  • 6 sigma trained
  • Experience of Siemens (PLC, HMI) SEW Inverters, Plant BMS, SCADA systems and safety PLCs (Pilz, Siemens)
  • Working knowledge of boiler, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office packages
