The Institute of Mechanical Engineers predicts a shortfall of up to 60,000 engineers and technicians. While we cannot solve this challenge for the entire industry, we believe we can play our part by training our own future engineers.
Our apprenticeship programme represents a significant investment, but one that delivers lasting value. Apprentices benefit from a blend of mentoring, on-site training, and flexible working designed to complement college-based learning. In return, we develop competent, ambitious engineers who understand the unique requirements of our manufacturing processes.
Running a factory efficiently relies on more than just manuals. Over time, our engineers develop a deep understanding of the machinery, enabling them to identify issues early, improve efficiency, and provide insight into where new investment is best directed. Apprenticeships help us to retain and share this knowledge, with mentoring playing a vital role in developing the next generation of engineers.
We know that classroom-based learning alone cannot provide this level of applied experience. Apprenticeships offer a valuable alternative for individuals who may not thrive in purely academic environments, while giving us a strong pipeline of skilled engineers for the future.
This initiative is a win-win: our apprentices gain valuable career development and hands-on training, while we strengthen our long-term workforce and support the future of British manufacturing.
