Role Overview:
The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining automated control systems, including programming and configuring PLCs, SCADA systems, and other automation technologies. It ensures that all Control & Electrical assets comply with company requirements and relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation. Responsibilities include maintaining plant records, conducting timely inspections, and implementing continuous improvement processes. The role provides second-line maintenance support, facilitating root cause fault diagnosis and prompt plant recovery. It involves planning and executing Control & Electrical projects safely and efficiently, supervising plant and equipment commissioning, and coordinating third-party activities. Additionally, the role assists in budget development, provides expert technical advice, and ensures the efficient and safe operation of machinery and processes.

Key responsibilities:
- Specialise in designing, developing, and maintaining control systems that automate processes, including programming and configuring PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and other automation technologies.
- Ensure that all Control & Electrical assets are maintained in accordance with the company’s requirements and in compliance with relevant statutory health & safety and environmental legislation.
- Keep records for plant maintenance and ensure timely inspections and actions based on testing/examining authorities’ recommendations.
- Champion continuous improvement processes, including breakdown analysis using RCFA techniques, and preventative and condition-based maintenance.
- Provide second-line maintenance support to engineers, facilitating root cause fault diagnosis on critical plant and equipment, and ensuring prompt plant recovery.
- Plan, engineer, and execute Control & Electrical work (projects, shutdowns, or other) safely and efficiently, within the allocated time and budget, to achieve performance and OEE targets.
- Supervise the acceptance and commissioning of plant and equipment, and prepare maintenance schedules and programmes to ensure reliable operation.
- Oversee and coordinate on-site third-party (e.g. contractor) activities to ensure compliance with company requirements and safety guidelines.
- Assist in budget development discussions and maintain systems for effective budget monitoring and control.
- Provide expert technical advice on Control & Electrical Engineering to ensure effective decision-making.
- Ensure efficient and safe operation of machinery and processes, focusing on system integration, troubleshooting, and optimisation.
Demonstrate proficiency in control theory, automation, programming languages (e.g. C++, Python), and diagnostic tools, with an understanding of process control and instrumentation. - Promoting and complying with H+H’s Health and Safety policies to ensure the health and safety of its employees and customers. Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Possesses a solid secondary education
- Qualified to HNC/D level in Electrical or Control Engineering, or possess an equivalent qualification, with time served or a suitably recognised qualification in electrical/control engineering (e.g., HNC, EAL Level 3 NVQ in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, etc.)
- Demonstrable practical experience in both reactive and preventative electrical maintenance, and continuous improvement.
- Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and experience in relevant software (e.g. design and calculation software).
- Solid understanding of PLC programming and fault finding.
- Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate risks to safe levels.
