Offering exceptional service to H+H’s merchant customers

H+H Regional Merchant Manager Aftab Salloo, explains how his own experience working at a builder’s merchant helps him deliver service that goes above and beyond.

Aftab joined H+H in September 2022 as a Merchant Manager looking after builders’ merchants in the East and West Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West. He spends his days on the road, attending customer appointments, resolving queries and offering expert sales support.

His favourite thing about the job? Building relationships with his merchant customers. “I’ve always had a passion for helping others and thrive on providing exceptional customer service and I’m thrilled to be doing that at H+H,” Aftab says.

Before joining H+H, Aftab had been in the industry for over 12 years, spending the majority of those working for an alternative supplier of aircrete and aggregate blocks. When it came time to leave that role, he had an in-depth knowledge of the products but wanted to gain a better understanding of the merchant side of the business.

Taking a break from the manufacturing industry, Aftab went to work for an independent builder’s merchant for a year and a half. An invaluable period in which he experienced the inner workings of a builder’s merchant and learnt all about its requirements and frustrations. 

Aftab explains, “This experience gave me a thorough understanding of how merchants work and in turn how best manufacturers and suppliers can support them. I sometimes experienced poor service from suppliers and merchant representatives who didn’t answer calls or didn’t have the answers to my questions, and I knew this was not the level of service they should be receiving.” 

“One of the reasons I joined H+H was its reputation for providing great service as a supplier. I hope to continue this by building excellent relationships with the merchant customers in my region and delivering a service that goes above and beyond.”
